Fixing the Smooth Mode Version Of My Shuriken
When I finished modelling my Shuriken in Maya I went to go look at it in the smooth mode which is a preview of what an object will look like when you render it and as you can see in the image below the shape of the shuriken has been changed because it has lost all of its sharp edges so if I were to render it like this it wouldn’t look how it is intended to look.

However, there is a way to fix this and to do that I need to use the multi-cut tool what this tool does is that it can cut, slice and put edge loops onto an object and the reason I am going to use this tool is that I can insert edge loops to act as supports for the object which will allow me to keep the sharp edges of the object and to do that I need to slice and put edge loops close to the outer edges of the object and this will preserve the sharp edges of the object.
How to use the Multi-Cut Tool
Also to use this tool you need to firstly click on the multi-cut tool icon which is located at the top of the UI below you can what this icon looks like and when you select the multi-cut tool you will notice when you hover over the object you want to use it on a line will appear over the object.
And what this line does it depending on where it is over the object it will allow you to make a cut on that part of the object and when you are happy with the selection press enter on your keyboard to confirm the cut also if you hold down alt on your keyboard you will be able to insert edge loop on the object.

After I use the multi-cut tool on part of the Shuriken it restored the hard edges on the Shuriken as you can see in the image below and because of this it looks more it is intended to look so when I do the final render of my shuriken it will be the correct shape.
