Concept Pieces for My Hero Asset
When designing the various concepts for my hero asset I had to make sure they were related to themes for this project which are a blacksmith and the Edo period of Japan and to make sure they were related to both of my themes I did some research on what type of things they were making in a blacksmith during this period such as weapons, armour etc. Also, I needed to know the appearance of the objects I was researching as this would allow me to base my concepts on them and now, I will look at the concepts I came up with.

For my first concept, I drew a helmet that a samurai would typically wear during the Edo period and the reason I drew this is because I had the idea that in the blacksmith there would be an armour stand displaying an armour set that they had created in the back, and it would be near weapons that had also been made in the blacksmith.
Also, another idea that I had with armour was to have cracks in parts of the armour and I could a large crack on this helmet that I drew to show signs of being damaged in a battle as this blacksmith would have raided so the place would be a complete mess.
The damage on the armour could help show that the blacksmith was attacked, and parts of the helmet could have completely fallen off. Lastly, this design of a helmet was based on images of the Edo period helmet that I liked the design of and you can see what the real one looks like below.

2nd Concept Piece

For my 2nd concept, I drew a shuriken, and I drew this because this is a type of weapon that would have been used in this time period so it would match both of my themes due to a shuriken would be made by a blacksmith and it existed in Edo period Japan.
Also, another reason I drew a shuriken is that I had an idea that there could be shuriken that would be thrown near the entrance and could have landed into a door or the walls around the entrance to show that someone threw them to try defending themselves against an attacker.
Also, on the shuriken, there could be a name embossed on them to show who owned them for example they could have belonged to the owner of the blacksmith.
3rd Concept Piece

For my last concept piece for a hero asset I drew a Sai and this weapon fits my themes due to a Sai would have been used in the Edo period as a weapon and would have been made by a blacksmith due to it being made from metal and I drew a Sai because I had an idea that it could have been used in the battle that took place in the blacksmith when It got raided and to show that it used it could have marks or cracks to show sign of wear and general damage to it.
Now, I need to pick what concept I want to use for my final hero piece that I am going to make and originally, I was going to go with the armour set concept however after thinking about it more I realized that 3d modelling a full armour set with the amount of detail that I would want it to have would be very difficult and time-consuming. So, I needed to pick a concept that was simpler to create and wouldn’t take as long so I decided to go for the Shuriken concept as they would be simple to 3D model, and I could make it to the quality that I want it to have in the time that I have to create my hero piece.
