Introduction

In this, I will be discussing a wide range of tools that I used to help me to create artwork both digitally and hand-drawn for games this will include a wide range of concepts such as characters, environments and so on. Also, I will be discussing the overall process of how I created these artworks such as what software I used and how I used them to make the finished concept and lastly, I will be talking about my general thoughts on my own concepts and how I could potentially improve on them.

What is Photoshop? And how it is used for Digital Artwork

To make all the digital artwork that I will be covering in this document, I used a program called Photoshop and what this program can be used for is all types of image editing, which means that this software includes a large variety of tools that allow you edit any image that you want like you can add text, change the background of an image etc.

However, I won’t be focusing on these aspects of Photoshop as I will be using this program for making artwork digitally and how this is done by that typically a person would use a device called a graphics tablet. This allows a person to draw digitally in Photoshop by that they would use a pen and draw on the tablet surface to make whatever they are trying to draw appear in their photoshop document. The specific tools you will need to use in Photoshop to draw anything are mainly brushes.

Photoshop Alternatives

Now, I will be discussing some alternatives to Photoshop and there are many reasons that anyone might want to use a different program than Photoshop and one of the big reasons people tend to use an alternative is because of how much Photoshop costs since to use it you have to pay £20 a month. So due to this people might pick a different program such as Gimp, since this program has most of the features that Photoshop has and due to this could be very appealing to anyone who wants to create digital artwork since it’s free to use and has most of the same features as Photoshop so anyone will be able to draw anything that they want to use Gimp and it’s won’t cost them anything to do so.

Also, another reason someone might want to use an alternative to Photoshop for creating digital artwork is that Photoshop isn’t specifically just designed for drawing as photoshop is also made for image editing so due to this it might lack specific features that an artist would want to use or might find useful when creating an art piece and a good example of an alternative that is like this is Clip Studio Paint so someone might decide to use Clip Studio Paint over Photoshop due to having more features that artists might want to use.

What Are References? And why you should use them when drawing

A reference is when you are trying to draw something and you can use images from the internet such as photographs etc and the reason it’s good to do this so for example if you were trying to draw something that exists in real life or something that is based on something that actually exists you could search images for what you’re trying to draw to make it accurate as possible to the real thing when drawing your artwork.

Also, you could use stuff that you have around you like for example if I wanted to draw facial expressions for a character I was designing I could use my own face as a reference since people are very expressive so you could use yourself as a reference when trying to draw something and this can apply to anything when drawing so you use anything to help you get the result that you want when drawing.
