Introduction to VFX & Developing Initial Ideas For My Piece

Overall, I will cover how I created various visual effects In Unreal and the general process of coming up with ideas for the environment/scene in which my visual effects will be featured. This includes a storyboard, animatic and general stuff I did to help develop ideas.

Also, I will show which tools I used in Unreal to help me accomplish various things in Unreal such as making the VFX themselves and how they fit with my environment. Also, I will show I have used lighting in my scene and the types of camera shots I chose to use to make the scene more interesting.

Description of  The Intended Piece

I want to make a TV commercial for PlayStation 1, and since this console was released in the late 90s, I want the scene to have an early 3D look to it like the games would have looked. How the scene would start in a bedroom and then switch to the TV’s perspective to show various made-up games, which I will put my VFX into.

Inspiration

My main inspiration for this piece is the low poly aesthetic that early 3D games had, so to match this aesthetic, I decided to make this piece set in the early 90’s so it could fit with this theme better below. I have included examples of some games from this era.

Also, another inspiration I had were the commercials themselves; specifically, commercials done by Sega in the early 90s had very high energy to them and were very memorable due to them using catchphrases, and they were very fast-paced in general. They got straight to the point. They showed you everything you needed to know about the product in a small amount of time. This is what I want to try to achieve with my piece.
